His sons recall Dick’s many tales of life at the Mirror, including overnight trips on seatless coaches to get the papers out during train strikes, and card games in the editor’s office in the early hours of Sunday. Dick refuted to the end the spurious allegation that he still owed for a round in the Stab.
Dick leaves his wife Patricia, sons Nick, Chris and Jonathan, and eight grandchildren.

Thanks to Monty Court for this: “Unmistakably Mike Christiansen! Memories of some hugely enjoyable times. I speak as one of the members of the early Sunday morning poker school in Mike’s office. How extraordinary that we managed to produce some great newspapers that sold by the millions.”
And to Deborah Thomas: “Yes, that is definitely Mike Christiansen when he was Sunday Mirror editor. I remember him well. One of the good guys.”
